A little history of this song..... Still Got the Blues     by Gary Moore

If you appreciate great guitar playing as much as I do, then you're in for a treat today. Gary Moore is probably one of the greatest that no one knows about. Acknowledged as one of the finest musicians that the British Isles has ever produced, and with a career that dated back to the 1960s, there were few musical genres that the Northern Irishman Gary Moore had not turned his adept musical hand to. Gracing the line-ups of several notable rock bands, Thin Lizzy, Colosseum II and (The Original) Skid Row, in his time, he established himself as a world-class guitarist, with few equals. Moore was often described as a virtuoso and has been cited as an influence by many other guitar players. He was voted as one of the greatest guitarists of all time on respective lists by Total Guitar and Louder. Irish singer-songwriter Bob Geldof said that "without question, [Moore] was one of the great Irish bluesmen". Today's Song of the Day 'Still Got the Blues' is from Moore's 1990 "Still Got the Blues" album. This was the title track of Gary Moore's multi-million selling album and was a return to the Blues music of his youth. He explains that when he left Thin Lizzy he felt like he needed to go back to his roots-the Blues. Turns out that was a great decision as this song and album went multi-platinum in 1990. Some positions are gonna change on your list of "greatest guitarists" once you listen to Gary Moore. You're gonna love his playing!

A little history of this song..... Cherry Red by Mark Seymour & the Undertow

Today we're going to feature one of Australia'a premiere singer-songwriters Mark Seymour and his band the the Undertows. In the late 80's Mark headlined a band that became an Aussie treasure, the name of which was Hunters & Collectors. They were a rock band whose genre can only be described as "art-funk", and were nominated a number of times for ARIA awards which is the Australian equivalent of the Grammy's. Hunters & Collectors broke up in the late 90's and Mark concentrated on his solo career. Along the way he met up with Undertows and they have recorded 5 albums under that moniker. Mark's songs are insightful and deeply thoughtful. Today's Song of the Day 'Cherry Red' is from his 2024 album "The Boxer". Of the album Mark says"the songs played highlighted travelling around Australia. Beautiful sunsets in Cherry Red, the bridge disaster that was Westgate, and travelling New Zealand. “We’ve thrown everything at these songs,” Seymour said in a statement. “Portraits of women, men, urban decay. Life in a landscape of uncertainty. And love, of course." I think it's something that although different is a song that you'll really like.

A little history of this song..... Sweater Weather      by The Neighbourhood

The Neighbourhood is an American alternative rock band formed in 2011 in California. The Neighbourhood released its debut album "I Love You" in 2013 via Columbia Records. The album was preceded by their 2012 single 'Sweater Weather'—their only single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 14 in 2013 and then suddenly re-surging in popularity nearly a decade (2023) later on radio airplay and Spotify and becoming a viral phenomenon on TikTok. The reason the song had a resurgence 10 years after its release in 2013 is that there is a whole community on Tik-Tok that view this song and its lyrics as a "bi-sexual anthem"... which it is not. But you know that once anything goes viral on the net "it has to be true." The song's author and the band's lead singer, Jesse Rutherford has gone on record as saying "the lyrics to Sweater Weather' are about intimacy — and are relatively genderless".

A little history of this song..... Darling         by Real Estate

Real Estate is an American indie rock band from Ridgewood, New Jersey, formed in 2008. The band is currently based in Brooklyn. The mainstays of the band are the two High School friends that formed the band: Martin Courtney & Alex Bleeker. Today's Song of the Day, 'Darling' is from the band's 2017 LP "In Mind". Martin Courtney explains his song to Songfacts: "That main riff in the song is something that I played a lot with Jackson, our drummer, during soundchecks. I would start playing it and then he would come in with the beat. He would do that thing where it turns around, goes into the offbeat and then everything would fall apart because we would get confused at that point. Anyhow, after we learned all the demos, I started just going through the voice memos on my phone. I had a recording of us playing this little riff and I was like, 'Let's turn this into a song.'"Lyrically, it’s one in a number of songs that are about being in a band. That song is kind of about, “Do I really want to make another album of music and continue this cycle where we put out a record, tour and I’m away from my family?” It’s about just deciding to do that again, making the decision to keep playing music. As much as I love doing it, it’s a very strange way to live your life.

Enjoy!!
