A little history of this song..... Beautiful People (Stay High) by The Black Keys
The Black Keys are an American rock duo formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre's revival in the 2000's while winng 5 Grammy awards. Today's Song of the Day 'Beautiful People (Stay High)' is a 2024 single from a yet to be determined Album and is a soulful reflection on personal struggle, the pursuit of grace, and the uplifting power of connection. In a Mojo report last year, they called it “our Saturday-night party record.” Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney took inspiration for the album from deejaying dance parties with their own collection of 45s. “What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun,” Carney says in the album’s official bio. “And something that most bands 20 years into their career don’t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool.” The Black Keys are known for their blues-rock sound, and this track is no exception. The soulful melody and the use of 'na-na-na' refrains create a sense of communal singing, which reinforces the theme of togetherness and support among 'beautiful people'. I hope you enjoy it

A little history of this song..... The Door by Teddy Swims
Teddy Swims, is an American singer-songwriter whose music blends genres including R&B, soul, country, and pop. He originally attracted fans through song covers on his YouTube channel throughout 2019 and 2020. Today's Song of the Day 'The Door' is a track from Swims' latest 2023 effort "I've Tried Everything but Therapy." On the album, Teddy Swims dives headfirst into the messy realities of life, using the studio as his own personal couch. Every session became a group therapy throwdown, with Swims and his co-writers dissecting his emotional peaks and valleys. 'The Door' showcases Swims at his most self-aware. The song chronicles his hard-earned escape from a toxic relationship, a partner who poisoned the well with friends and family. "That song is about saving my own life," Swims declared. "It was so hard to convince myself of that in the moment, but that's when my priorities shifted from her to me, to saving myself, to loving myself again. 'The Door' is about believing that you're always going to be OK if you trust in yourself." I have to admit that I'm not a fan, but he sells a lot of records and I kow that there are people who read the blog and like him. Listen for yourself.

A little history of this song..... The Masterplan by Noel Gallagher
Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds set-up shop at Abbey Road to re-record a pair of Oasis songs, 'The Masterplan' and 'Going Nowhere.'
Both songs originally appeared on Oasis’ 1998 B-sides collection, The Masterplan, which just got the 25th anniversary reissue treatment earlier this year. They’re also both staples of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds live set, so the Abbey Road Sessions offered the band a chance to lay down their versions for posterity. Today's Song of the Day is 'The Masterplan' from the High Flying Birds 2023 Session at the Abbey Road Studios. Written in a Japanese hotel room, is considered by Noel Gallagher and fans alike to be one of his best works. “That’s my favourite song I have ever written I think.I was really fucking proud of it and I still am." The lyrics were inspired by the hotel's long corridor and what Gallagher described as a "Good, relaxing smoke." When asked about what the song meant to him, Noel responded: "To me this sums up your journey through life. All we know is that we don't know." Very true!

A little history of this song..... All I Want is You-(Live from Slane Castle) by U2

In 1988 after the release of "Rattle and Hum" by U2 to everyone's surprise the second most popular song on the album became 'All I Want is You' which is today's Song of the Day. It has become so popular that Bono & U2 preform it
as their encore at most performances. It's and enduring love song Bono wrote to his wife Allison, and I can think of no prettier song to listen to with the one you love than 'All I Want is You'. The story behind the song goes like this: Bono wrote this song for his wife Ali when they were considering having children and he was wondering if he could cut it as a father despite his flaws. She reassured him, telling him she loved all of him, even the troubled parts. The lyric is from her perspective, telling Bono that he can offer her riches (which he had thanks to U2's previous album, The Joshua Tree. but all she really wants is him."She is the singer of the song," Bono explained in his book Surrender. "It became one of our most enduring songs and the opposite of pretty much everyone's reading of it." Bono and Ali ended up having four children, the first, Jordan, born in 1989, the year after this song was released.
