A little history of this song..... Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve
The Verve were a Brit-Pop band formed in 1990 by leader Richie Ashcroft. By the end of the 90's the group had dis-banded and the members re-formed once in 2007, but that was the last time that they put on an LP or toured. During the years that they were together they did however put out one song 'Bittersweet Symphony' that has become the moral anthem and one of the defining songs of the Britpop era/movement of the 90's. A song that Rolling Stone named as one of the 500 greatest songs of the Rock Era. it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. As to the meaning of the song... I'll give you my interpretation... which may/may not be correct: I think the song is a reflection that life will offer many events, or a symphony of events so to speak, some of them good and some bittersweet. To describe an event as bittersweet would be to view the event while it is occurring as a positive thing, but after time passes, and a person has time to reflect, the event can hold some sadness, pain, or leave you feeling bitter in some way. The overall meaning of the song is that life is a "symphony" of moments, some familiar and some unfamiliar, some wonderful and joyous but others painful or sad.. Definitely a poignant song and one that you should probably turn on the lyrics to get a clearer understanding.

A little history of this song..... Fourth of July by Steve Conte
Happy Fourth of July 🇱🇷🇱🇷 !!!! The Last 2 years I've made the same post on this Day because my favorite 4th of July song has always been X's 1988 '4th of July.' Knowing that I had to change this up 'cause I couldn't do it 3 years in a row, I've been scouring the Internet looking for just the right song for the Holiday... and I thnk I've found a great replacement. Not surprisingly the title is 'Fourth of July' by the NY artist Steve Conte off his 2024 album. "The Concrete Jangle." Steve Conte was at one time a member of the NY Dolls and subsequently a member of the Michael Monroe group before going solo. 'Fourth of July' is a classic slice of rock’n’roll infused Americana with a strong New York twist. It’s a song built around driving guitars and a pounding drum beat, overlayed throughout with hugely infectious melodies. Based on a chorus which Steve had fashioned back in the 90’s, it was his new-found collaboration with producer Andy Partridge that provided the necessary spark to bring the song into life and what we hear today. As for the inspiration for the new single, Steve explains this as follows, “With a title like 'Fourth of July' I knew I wanted it to be about the sparks that fly, the fireworks that go off in a relationship. One with intense chemistry…love, fulfilment …bombs bursting in air, ya know? Explosions, you bet!!!

A little history of this song..... Wanting and Waiting by Black Crowes
In January 2024, The Black Crowes released 'Wanting And Waiting', the band’s first new material in a little over a decade. Admittedly, I lost track of The Black Crowes after their second album, 1992’s "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion," because their material wasn’t receiving airplay on the radio after that point. When I saw that The Black Crowes had released a new song in 2024, I decided I needed to check it out and hear what the band has to offer in the 2020’s.
Musically, I thought that 'Wanting And Waiting' sounded like a modernized version of the sound that the band was known for in the early 1990’s. I don’t have a problem with that, though, because this is the type of sound musically that has worked well for the band in the past. While I can hear modernized versions of the elements of The Black Crowes’ early material, it doesn’t simply sound like a retread. When it comes to Chris Robinson’s vocals, he definitely sounds older than he did 30 plus years ago, but his current vocal quality works well with the feel of this track.
Lyrically, this song is from the point of view of a speaker who has experienced a breakup in a relationship and is wanting the other person in the relationship back. These lyrics should be relatable to a lot of listeners, since most people have gone through a similar kind of scenario at some point in their life. There was one line that really stood out to me: “It’s like I’m cold to touch, mortuary style.” If that imagery doesn’t evoke the speaker’s mindset in the song, then I don’t know what would.
After listening to 'Wanting And Waiting', I thought it was a decent song, but it didn’t necessarily grab me on my first listen. It’s not a bad song, though, and I think it’s one that will potentially grow on me the more I hear it. Fans of The Black Crowes will likely have an appreciation for the track, and listeners who enjoy southern rock may find something here to enjoy as well.
Enjoy!!

A little history of this song..... Might Be Right by White Reaper
White Reaper is an American alternative/garage punk band based in Louisville, and formed in 2015. They've been labeled as both alternative music's latest 'it' band and one of the most interesting young rock groups around today, White Reaper is easy to root for. They combine elements of rock 'n' roll, punk rock and power pop into their repotoire to form a unique sound. Today's Song of the Day 'Might Be Right' is from their 2020 album "You Deserve Love." White Reaper guitarist Hunter Thompson recently spoke with Q104.3 QN'A to react to the band's single 'Might Be Right' hitting No. 1 on alternative radio. "The song began in February of 2018. I was with Tony, and we had a couple ideas. Tony had an idea for the bassline and a different idea for the verse guitars. We kind of worked on it, made a demo and ended up hitting a wall a bit and it didn't really go anywhere. We went to the studio and it was hard to get it to sound the way we wanted it to. A lot of our songs previously had been really hard, fast rock songs and punk rock songs. This one has a little more dynamics, more space to breathe. It was kind of a departure from our normal operations and I think that's why it ended up being one of our favorite songs. It took us in another direction."A great song from a great Alternative band looking yo reach higher heights,
Enjoy!!
