A little history of this song... Everybody Wants to Rule the World   Tears For Fears

'Everybody Wants to Rule the World ' is a song by English pop rock band Tears for Fears (Roland Orzabal, Curt Smith) from their second studio album Songs from the Big Chair in 1985 and was the 3rd single released from that album after 'Shout' and 'Head Over Heels/Broken.' The song was a "last-minute" addition during recording sessions of Songs from the Big Chair as the band needed one more song to complete the album. The decision to include the song in the LP came after Orzabal played two chords on his acoustic guitar for producer Chris Hughes. Hughes went along with it and the song was recorded in two weeks and added as the final track on the album. According to Orzabal, the final line in the song's chorus, originally written as "Everybody wants to go to war", contributed to his indifference towards the original track, but was eventually changed. 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World '" is a new wave and synth-pop song with lyrics that detail the desire humans have for control and power and center on the theme of corruption. Tears for Fears revisited the song and its message in a 2017 interview with Yahoo! Music, stating that the song's themes were still "just as poignant" as they were when they first wrote it. A great song from the "New Wave" era of Rock Music

A little history of this song..... Soul Force   by Dion & Susan Tedischi

Dion, YES! THAT Dion from Dion & the Belmonts from the 1960's, has a new album out, "Girl Friends" where all the songs are a collaborative effort between him and some of today's most popular female artists to showcase the ‘female genius’ in music. He preforms some timeless hits, including Today's Song of the Day 'Soul Force' with guitar virtuoso Susan Tedischi of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. Here's what Dion had to say about the album: "I wanted the best music possible. So, I wrote up a batch of duets for me and my ‘girl friends,’ the women who inhabit my headphones — the women who make me turn up the volume when they drop into my radio. I invited them to join me, one by one, and here they are, wailing on the guitar and into the microphone. You’ll hear the feminine genius in every groove of this record, and you won’t forget any of it.” The magnificent guitar tone that pours out of Susan Tedeschi’s fingers does provide some texture but it is clear that Dion is not trying to musically reinvent the wheel but rather stick with what he knows best; classic blues that he grew up listening to and honed his craft with nothing more, nothing less. I had my doubts at first about the Dion playing guitar on this album, and Susan Tedeschi is, well, just as magnificent as always on her axe... but he proves on all 11 songs that he can still Rock. It's worth a listen. If you like the Blues and great guitar playing, you'll love this.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song..... A Girl Like You  by The Young Rascals

Continuing with my 60's theme from the past 2 days, I bring you another one of the hottest acts of the mid 60's...The Young Rascals (featuring Felix Cavaliere). I'm not really sure why I added other than that I heard it the other day on the radio and it reminded me of some of the great 60's pop songs of the era and thought it would be nice to bring one of the most popular back to your attention. A brief history: The Rascals, led by Felix Cavaliere, formed in the early 60's and for all intents and purposes became the forerunners of what today is called 'blue-eyed soul." Today's Song of the Day is from The Young Rascals 1967's "Groovin" and is entitled 'A Girl Like You'. Cavaliere wrote this about his girlfriend at the time and the song talks about the advantages of a relationship against loneliness. It charted at #10 in '67 was one of the groups best sellers. If you're unfamilir with Cavaliere and the Rascals some of their hits have included 'Good Lovin', 'Groovin', 'How Can I Be Sure?', 'People Got to Be Free' and 'A Beautiful Morning'. Click on the Song titles to listen to them and a time when the world was much simpler.

P.S. If you watch the vide below to the end, a montage of the Rascal's appeareances on the Ed Sullivan show appear and you can click on them to see them perform some of the songs I previously mentioned.

Enjoy!!
