A little history of this song..... Mars To Liverpool      by Liam Gallagher

The idea in 2024 of a collaboration album between The Stone Roses’ guitarist John Squire and Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has been something coveted by fans of Britpop since their first performance together at Knebworth in 1996. In Today's Song of the Day 'Mars to Liverpool' the first thing you’ll notice in this single is the riff. Squire brings that same flavour that he brought to both Stone Roses albums, giving the track an upbeat and optimistic feel. Gallagher’s contribution to the song is his signature vocal style. After years of abuse, his voice isn’t what it used to be, nevertheless, it makes for an enjoyable listen, his melodies pair well with Squire’s guitar and his aggressive performance provide a good contrast. 'Mars to Liverpool' is a song that seems to delve into themes of regret, self-discovery, and the hope for emotional renewal. Is it possible that this song may be about the the Gallagher brothers strained relationship... it's certtqainly possible. 'Mars to Liverpool' might represent an impossible journey, highlighting the difficulty of navigating through one's own emotions and experiences to reach a state of understanding or acceptance. The song is reflective of Gallagher's rock roots, with its straightforward lyrics and melodic hooks that invite listeners to find their own meaning in the journey from turmoil to tranquility. I think it's a great song from this newly formed duo. I think you'll like it as well.

A little history of this song..... Buy a Dog     by Luce

Today's Song of the Day 'Buy a Dog' is from the band Luce's 2014 Album "Never Ending."I also cover Luce in Vol. 1 with their 2005 single 'Good Day.' They're a band out out of the Bay Area with a small but loyal following. Certainly they're not chart-busters, but they priduce music that just makes you feel good. Somewhat Beatle-esque. No deep hidden lyrics about some tragic event in the narrator's life, just feel good songs that bring a smile to your face after listening to them. My interpretation of 'Buy a Dog' is that the song is about a couple deeply in love that can't have children but extremely in love with one another and instead of a child , they bring a dog into the relationship:

So if you wanna try, we'll make it you and I

We'll never be alone, we'll buy a dog and bring him home

He'll jump up on the bed, we'll be the best of friends

I think that we should try, I think that we should try

It's a nice song about people who have each other's back forever and want a bring a dog into the mix to solidify their happiness. You have to trust me on this one... you're gonna like this 2014 pop song.

A little history of this song..... Hollowed Out     by Ducks Ltd.

Ducks Ltd. formed in 2021 are a Canadian indie rock duo from Toronto, consisting of singer and rhythm guitarist Tom McGreevy and lead guitarist Evan Lewis. They have put out 2 full length albums since their inception and Today's Song of the Day 'Hollowed Out' comes of their 2024 album "Harm's Way." 'Hollowed Out' has some of their favorite musicians playing on the LP including Ratboys' Julia Steiner and Marcus Nuccio, Dehd’s Jason Balla, and Moontype’s Margaret McCarthy all as collaborators on this tune. In an interview with McGreevy & Lewis here's what they had to say about the meaning of the song: "There was a sinkhole that opened up on Dundas West a little while ago, in an area near to where I live. It shut down the road for a month. It had a strange resonance, partly because a lot of the streets in Toronto used to be rivers and streams running down to the lake that roads were then built over. It felt like an encroachment of nature into an urban environment–the river coming back to collapse a piece of civic infrastructure, and I built the song around the feeling that evoked. It’s about living with decline. About the feeling that the horizon of possibility in the world is forever being drawn in to align with the edges of the imaginations of a small group of careless rich people. And about existing through a state of ongoing catastrophe over which we have no control." The song has been getting lots of airplay and one that I think you'll like.

A little history of this song..... Get Numb To It     by Friko

Friko is an alternative Indie rock band from Chicago and have recently become a permanent fixture on the Chicago Rock scene over the last several months. They are comprised of 2 members: vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan and drummer Bailey Minzenberger. After selling out a hometown show at the Metro, the band played across North America and made their festival debut at Bonnaroo, bringing their dynamic live show to a national audience. In early 2024 they released their album "Where we've been, Where we go from here" is inspired by their joint love of Romantic-era classical music and art-rock. Today's Song of the Day 'Get Numb To It' is from that LP. It lends itself to be an anthem with its easily memorable lyrics and catchy beat. “When we recorded the song Niko and I were each on pianos on opposite sides of the room, just slamming on them for texture,” notes Minzenberger. This creation process is as out-of-the-box as their overall sound is. Their ability to create and produce a track as eclectic and vibrant as this only highlights what’s to come from them in the future. They’re a band to watch out for within the indie-rock scene. They’ve made their mark in Chicago and are bound to tour and take over other cities in the process. Be on the lookout for this Chicago based band.
