A little history of this song..... Happiness by The Heavy Heavy
The Heavy Heavy are a rock duo based out of Brighton, UK with a retro-rock sound reminiscent of some of your favorite bands from the 60's & 70's. The duo consists of Will Turner & Georgie Fuller. Their debut effort came out in Jun 2022 and their stated ambition is "making records that sound like our favorite records ever that are deeply entrenched in our psyche. The Male-Female harmonies on this album produce a very different sound not heard very often in today's music.”From the Grammy's website: "UK-based rock band The Heavy Heavy performs their vibrant single 'Happiness' from their debut album "One Of A Kind". Co-written by Georgie Fuller and William Turner, the track captures a bold determination to break free from loneliness, delivering an instant mood boost with resplendent melodies and signature multi-part harmonies."
The song, a bridge to the band’s new era, blends lush psych-pop with visceral intensity. “We felt we needed a song that had that summery, flowery feel of the [Life and Life Only] EP, and somehow at the last minute we were able to pull magic out of thin air,” recalls Fuller." Well worth a spin or two to see if you like their unique approach.

A little history of this song..... The Price of Love by Robert Plant, Alison Krause
'The Price of Love' is an oft covered ballad that has been covered a number of times by different bands since its debut by the Everly Brothers in 1965. It became a mini-hit for the Brothers that year but failed to chart here in the U.S. Today's Song of the Day 'The Price of Love' is the cover version done by Robert Plant & Allison Krause from their 2021 "Raise the Roof" album. The legendary Producer T-Bone Burnett produced the album for Plant & Krauss. The song is warning somebody that they might be in love with a girl now, but soon she will be finished with him and he won't be able to forget about her. Tears and pain are the price men pay for love. "For their take on 'The Price of Love' Krauss suggested,"That's a great song. Let's just strip it down to nothing and see how dark we can make it."The two singers and producer, T-Bone Burnett, took the song down to half-speed and re-imagined it as a seedy alcoholic's lament. Alison likes it dark," said Burnett to Mojo magazine. Plant and Krauss' version of 'The Price of Love' opens with half a minute of the instruments quietly dropping in before Krauss arrives."One of her theories is that tempo has nothing to do with intensity. She's looking for maximum intensity. She wants to slow things down.

A little history of this song..... The Other Man by Sloan
One of my favorite alt rock/ pop bands is a band that rarely receives any air-play here in the U.S., yet is hugely popular in Canda. The band I'm referring to is the Canadian alternative rock band Sloan. Sloan has released thirteen full-length albums and has received nine Juno Award nominations, winning one. The Juno Award is the equivilent of the US Grammy award. Interestingly enough all four members of Sloan write and sing their own songs, and when they play live they switch instruments accordingly. Today's Song of the Day is from their 2001 Album "Pretty Together" and is entitled 'The Other Man' and was a Canadian Top 10 song in 2002. The song was inspired by Chris Murphy's relationship with Canadian singer Leslie Feist, which describes a love triangle between the two and Broken Social Scene member Andrew Whiteman, whom Feist was also seeing while dating Murphy. Ahh, those Canadians are just as fucked up as we are here in the States. This is a really good offering from one of Canada's Top Alternative bands. I hope you like it.

A little history of this song..... Neon Pill by Cage the Elephant
Cage the Elephant is back with their first album in five years, and lead singer Matt Shultz is sharing his personal story and connection to the project's title. The song 'Neon Pill ' is a very personal struggle Matt had : "I definitely went through a really difficult time where I was prescribed a medication and unknowingly went into psychosis — it can happen, it's a terrible thing if it does — but I'm a living miracle right now, so that's probably the biggest reason why we chose that as the title track," Matt said. What Matt is specifically referring to is Shultz’s arrest for unlicensed firearms after bringing two loaded guns into a Manhattan hotel and his subsequent hospitalization due to the psychoses that were brought on by taking his prescribed medication. I had this general feeling as though I was always being chased and that my life was in danger and that was someone was trying to kill me. I was certain that something to do with my medication was destroying my life and the odd thing is the medication was destroying my life. Shultz' battle with his medication is reflected in the song's themes of isolation. The lyrics hint at strained relationships, with the second verse mentioning an old love and a familiar taste - perhaps a nostalgic reminder of a happier time. Interestingly, the verse then shifts to French - Shultz has a French ex-wife.f
