A little history of this song..... Step Into Your Power  by Ray LaMontagne

Ray LaMontagnethe celebrated Grammy Award Winning singer-songwriter—unveiled a new single in June 2024 entitled, 'Step Into Your Power,' with a video created by his son Tobias. The track, releasing via the highly independent artist’s newly created label Liula Records, is the first taken from LaMontagne’s "Long Way Home." The uplifting 'Step Into Your Power' is a foot-tapping, nostalgia laden tune that evokes the psychedelic folk-rock that LaMontagne has made his signature. LaMontagne also employs theThe Secret Sisters  to provide choral backing vocals. The song is an exercise in the power of positivity. One lyric suggests that everything is within reach:

Anything that your heart can dream

You can make it reality

The stop-motion music video, animated by his son Tobias LaMontagne, features retro magazine clippings acting out the track’s motivational lyrics. A power yet laid back song... or better put a signature song from Ray LaMontagne.

A little history of this song..... Righteously by Lucinda Williams

"One of the most celebrated singer/songwriters of her generation, Lucinda Williams is also a fiercely independent artist who had to fight for the creative freedom that allowed her to do her best work. The daughter of a well-respected poet, Williams brought a literacy and sense of detail to her music that was unpretentious but powerfully evocative and emotional, and a number of major artists covered her tunes while she was still establishing herself as a musician." As she rose up through the Music ranks more and more critics anadfans alike began to notice her unique style. Today's Song of the Day Grammy nominated 'Righteously' comes off Williams 2003 hit album "World Without Tears." Here's what AllMusic stated about the song: "The muck and mire of 'Righteously' is pure rock. It's an exhortation to a lover that he need not prove his manhood by being aloof, but to 'be the man you ought to tenderly/Stand up for me.' Robert Hilburn, in his review of "World Without Tears" for the Los Angeles Times, stated "The tempo picks up on 'Righteously', but the lyrics still speak of the search for some shelter in a stormy relationship. The fiery electric guitar underscores the desperation of the lyrics." An eclectic Alt. Rock song with a crunching guitar solo, makes this song one that will remain with you long after listening to it.

A little history of this song..... Suspicious Minds    by Elvis Presley

I think it goes without saying that we all know who Elvis is is and what he meant to rock Music. But, in the Summer of '62 things began to go downhill for Elvis with both the Movies he was making or the songs that were failing to chart. He had been making a series of unexceptional movies that weren't doing well at the box-office, and his music had lost its luster due to the British Invasion.'Suspicious Minds'  was a big comeback song for Elvis in 1969, whose last US #1 hit was'Good Luck Charm' in 1962. 'Suspicious Minds'  brought him back to #1 in November 1969, and he was off and running, launching a tour in 1970 (his first in nine years) and becoming a star attraction in Las Vegas. It ended up being his last #1 hit in his lifetime, but his releases started charting a lot higher than his mid-'60s output. The story behind the song is that Elvis heard the song at Chips Moman's American Sound Studio in Memphis, where he came to record as a change of pace from Nashville; it was his first time recording in Memphis since 1955. Donna Jean Godchaux, who sang backup on James' original and also on Elvis' recording, told Songfacts: "Elvis was in the studio at American Sound in Memphis, and our friend Mark James, who wrote 'Suspicious Minds'  had an office there. Elvis walked by Mark's office and Mark was playing the demo that we had done - we had done the background vocals on his version of 'Suspicious Minds, '  Elvis walked in and said, 'I want that song and I want those girls." In this song, the overriding theme is that the trust is gone between a couple, replaced with a toxic suspicion of one another that is making the couple miserable. The song is sung from the guy's perspective; seems he's been accused of cheating, and his partner doesn't believe a word he says. He turns the tables, telling her that her suspicions are killing him, and asking for a fresh start so they can build their dreams. It's not clear if he's really been unfaithful or if he's been wrongly accused. Either way a great song for the King and one that put him back on the map of Rock's Royalty.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song..... Wicked Game   by Chris Isaak

Today's Song of the Day ..Chris Isaak's sultry ballad 'Wicked Game' was a modest hit the first time around, but it has grown over the years to become one of the world's most iconic love songs. The seductive track has been covered by many other artists, and featured in countless movies, TV shows and advertisements over the years. American singer Chris Isaak wrote 'Wicked Game'' for his 1989 album "Heart Shaped World. " This was his third album, and before this LP he had largely released 1950s-style rock music and sophisticated R&B. He was aged 33 when 'Wicked Game' was released. The song is often thought of as a ballad about unrequited love, but Isaak has said that the song was actually inspired by a telephone call from a woman seeking to arrange a casual sexual affair, and is about "what happens when you have a strong attraction to people that aren't necessarily good for you." Speaking to Songfacts, Isaak said: "This one I wrote really late at night and it was written in a short time, because I remember that a girl had called me and said, 'I want to come over and talk to you,' and 'talk' was a euphemism. And she said, 'I want to come over and talk to you until you're no longer able to stand up.' And I said, 'Okay, you're coming over.' And as soon as I hung up I thought, 'Oh, my God. I know she's gonna be trouble. She's always been trouble. She's a wildcat. And here I am, I'm going to get killed, but I'm doing this.' And I wrote 'Wicked Game' and the lyric 'world's on fire and no one can save me but you.' It's like you start thinking about it, and by the time she came over to the house, I had the song written. And I think she was probably upset because I was more excited by the song. (Laughing) I was like, 'Yes, you're gorgeous, baby. But listen to this song!'" The song got a big boost when an instrumental version was featured in the 1990 movie Wild At Heart, which was directed by David Lynch and starred Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage. If you haven't heard this one in a while, enjoy as it's a great song from that era.

Enjoy !!
