A little history of this song..... Love Dies Young         by Foo Fighters

'Love Dies Young' is a 2022 song by Foo Fighters. It was released as the fifth and final single from their, believe it or not, tenth studio album, "Medicine at Midnight," in 2022. It was also the last single released during drummer Taylor Hawkins' lifetime. If you've ever wondered how the band got it's name, Grohl explained that after the demise of Nirvana, where he had been the drmmer; he set out to make a demo tape and hand it out to friends to see if they liked it. Foo Fighters, is taken from foo fighter, a World War II term for unidentified flying objects. He hoped the name would lead listeners to assume the music was made by several people. He said later: "Had I actually considered this to be a career, I probably would have called it something else, because it's the stupidest fucking band name in the world! 30years later, Foo Fighters are still around making great music. Today's Song of the Day 'Love Dies Young' comes from their 2022 LP "Medicine at Midnight."It was the 5th single to be released off the album, but probaly my favorite. This upbeat Foo Fighters rocker finds Dave Grohl taking a cynical view of matters of the heart. He maintains that when you're deeply in love, it "leaves you numb with a nasty reputation." Such an attraction doesn't last forever, and once it's gone, it will "make you wish you never had a taste." A different kind of song from the band as its upbeat tempo indicates, but still nonetheless a great Foo Fighters song.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song..... We Were Never Alive         by Brigette Calls Me Baby

Arguably, the Chicago Band of the moment these days is Brigette Calls Me Baby (BCMB). They have one of the hottest EP's in the country out this Summer and are touring everywhere to support it. Their frontman Wes Leavins labels their sound as "Sophisticated Alternative Rock."Leavins is a charasmatic frontman but it’s his voice that really pierces your ears. A confident rock singer with a soaring instrument, he has pipes and isn’t afraid to use them. I know this a stretch but his voice is comaprable to the late great Roy Orbison. There seems to be a timeless vibe to BCMB's music that even Boomers would like. No matter what geneeration you're from... their music just feels comfortable. Today's Song of the Day 'We Were Never Alive' is from their recently released Jun 2024 EP of the same name. "The song is about how in the grand scheme of existence, the time we’re alive is so brief and insignificant. At some point, after you’re gone, when everyone who knew you is gone as well, it’s almost as if you never existed at all,” states Leavins. A potent band for sure, and one to look out for in the fuhture as these guys are going places.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song..... Bennie and the Jets        by Elton John

In the Spring of 1973 (I was a Sophmore in HS at the time) I don't think you could turn on your car radio and within 10 minutes not hear Today's Song of the Day 'Bennie and the Jets.' And, if I'm being perfectly honest I began to get sick of this song after about a month. I would change the station in my car immediately when it came on, only to find out it was playing on the station that I changed to! But, as the years have paseed and I hear it today so infrequently, my mind set about this song has really done an about-face. To hear me say that "I think this is a really good Rock song" surpises even me. 'Bennie and the Jets.' has all the elements of a great song: It's extremely well written lyrically by Elton John & Bernie Taupin, the guitar work by Davey Jonstone is tremendous, a thumping drum that keeps your toes tapping, and the distinctive voice and unparalleled piano playing of Elton John. What's not to like? It even sounds like it's being done in a concert hall. The cross-over appeal with black audiences was tremendous as well as Elton was one of the first white artists to appear on what was then the biggest African-American dance show of the day...Soul Train. The song tells of "Bennie and the Jets", a fictional band of whom the song's narrator is a fan. In a 2014 Rolling Stone interview, Taupin said "I saw Bennie and the Jets as a sort of proto-sci-fi punk band, fronted by an androgynous woman, who looks like something out of a Helmut Newton photograph. Ok, that may be a little over my head, but it shows the thought that went into the song. I've rambled too long... listen and enjoy 1973 from Elton's appearance on Soul Train...

A little history of this song..... She Drives Me Crazy      by Fine Young Cannibals

Fine Young Cannibals were an English pop rock band formed in Birmingham, England, in 1984 by former The Beat band bassist David Steele and guitarist Andy Cox with singer Roland Gift. Today's Song of the Day 'She Drives Me Crazy' by Fine Young Cannibals appears on the1988 album "The Raw & The Cooked" and captures the feelings of being uncontrollably attracted to someone. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and frustration, as the narrator is deeply affected by the actions of the person they are infatuated with. The repeated line 'She drives me crazy' emphasizes the intensity of these emotions and the power the other person holds over the singer's mental state. Musically, Fine Young Cannibals  infuse the song with a catchy, upbeat rhythm that contrasts with the angst-ridden lyrics, creating a juxtaposition that mirrors the chaotic nature of the emotions being described. The song's infectious groove and memorable chorus made it a hit in the late 1980s, and its relatable theme of love's madness continues to resonate with listeners. When Fine Young Cannibals first tried to record this, lead singer Roland Gift used his regular voice and the song was "She's My Baby." No one involved with the recording liked it, but a revamping of the lyrics and a falsetto voice for the new 'She Drives Me Crazy' changed everybody's opinion of the song. The song captures the essence of being so enamored with someone that it disrupts one's peace of mind, a feeling that many can relate to. A good song that reminds me of how much fun the late 80's were.

Enjoy!!
