A little history of this song..... That's Where I Am   by Maggie Rogers

We're going to start off Volume 10 with one of the hottest performers in Music today-- Maggie Rogers. Since she was first "discovered" at NYU by Pharrell Williams in 2016 while he was grading her music project (which turned out to be her single 'Alaska') Maggie has slowly but surely risen up the ranks to the point now that she has become one of Music's top superstars. Selling out arenas in both Europe and the US, she has proven that her talent, hard-work, and determination have paid off. Today's Song of the Day is 'That's Where I Am' from her 2022 "Surrender" album. 'That's Where I Am' recounts the tale of a relationship that started as a friendship before becoming romantic. It finds Maggie Rogers declaring her commitment to the love that had been within her and unfolding for a long time. "It's a true story," she told Apple Music. "It's the story of my life. It's the story of a relationship and the sort of twists and turns it can take and the way it does sort of all work out in the end. The way love can stay with you, even when you're not physically together." Rogers penned this song very quickly. "Tom Hull started playing this chord progression on a 12-string guitar and, truly, I sat down and wrote the song front-to-back in 10 minutes," she recalled. "Tom was right there catching me in the sort of movement that can only come from two people that have worked together for a while. It just sort of happened. And the full version of the production, it was done within two hours, maybe." Great song! The video below is a 'Live' version from Glastonbury in July 2023.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song... What They've Been Singin' About  by Street Puppets

The Street Puppets are an indie rock band hailing from Lisburn, Northern Ireland, who’s core members are Jordan Quinn and Luke Cherry, with a guest bass guitarist when performing live. The pair formed the band in 2022 after their shared love for groups like The Beatles, The Police and The Libertines became apparent. Through these influences (and more) they worked on creating their own sound - this trial and error way of songwriting can be heard in how different their first few songs are. They combine aspects of classic rock with modern indie rock to create a very distinctive sound. ‘What They’ve Been Singin’ About’ (Today's Song of the Day from their 2023 EP) was reviewed in Dublin music magazine The Goo, which predicts an upwards trajectory for the band, is a prime example how catchy and melodic they can sound, even when restricting themselves to 2 chords. An indie band that I think you'll like.

A little history of this song..... Falling in Love Again  by Selfless Lovers

The Selfless Lovers' original music is a powerful piano-driven rock n’ roll endeavor from Austin, Texas with strong soul, funk and blues influences. They have a very reminiscent retro sound that I think you'll like. The group’s original music draws on classic rock, soul, blues and southern rock influences. Founder Nik Parr’s band is built around his piano playing and singing, with an ear for catchy, danceable and "holy hell, I love this music," kind of songs. His live show is made even more unique, as Nik switches seamlessly from the saxophone to the piano in between singing, working the crowd, and directing his band. He even plays the two instruments at the same time. Today's Song of the Day 'Falling in Love Again' is a 2023 single the band put out last year. The song's meaning is exactly what the title states.... about falling in love again. Give it a few spins...it's has some catchy pop hooks to it that you may like.

A little history of this song..... Use Somebody  by Kings of Leon

Today's Song of the Day  2008's 'Use Somebody' is by the Kings of Leon and won three awards at the 2010 Grammys: Record of the Year, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. Frontman Caleb Followill wrote this song about longing for somebody to be with while feeling lonely on the road. He said on his band's website: "It's about being far from home." "Caleb told Uncut magazine October 2008 the story of the song: "The meat of song was written on tour. When I came up with 'I could use somebody,' I didn't know if I was talking about a person or home or God. I felt immediately that it was a big song, and it scared me away. Then, when we were writing the record, Matthew kept sayin', 'What's that song, man?', and I acted like I didn't know what he was talking about. Then, finally, I went, 'All right, we'll do it,' and as soon as we started playin' it, the producers looked up and said, 'Whoa, that's a good song.' I was like, 'OK.'" Actually, it's a very good song and one that you may not have heard in a while, but one that I know you'll like.

Enjoy!!
