MAY 23rd 2022 A little history of this song… All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople

By 1972, Mott the Hoople were on the verge of splitting up. Having been together for three years, the band had released four well-received albums and developed a small loyal following but had failed to garner commercial success. When David Bowie , who had been a a big fan of "Mott", sent them a song he had written entitled 'All the Young Dudes.' Ian Hunter (the band's lead singer, was ecstatic. He was quoted as saying I knew straight away it was a hit. There were chills going down my spine. It's only happened to me a few times in my life, when you know that this is a biggie".

One of my favorites from this Prog band.

Enjoy!!

A little history of this song… Hey Girl by O.A.R.

O.A.R. is an American Alternative rock band, founded in 1996 in Rockville, Maryland. The lead singer of O.A.R. is Marc Roberge and when asked how Roberge and his bandmates came up with the name of the band they answered that they were in a friend's basement when they were in high school in the late '90s and thought it would be a cool name. O.A.R. stands for "Of A Revolution." There is a word that comes before "of" that the band has never revealed. "We always wanted it to be this mystery,"Four of the band members grew up in Rockville Maryland and attended Thomas Sprigg Wooton HS. After graduating, they went on to study at Ohio State. The band is well known for their live shows and extensive summer touring, and have released six live recordings, the most popular being “Live on Red Rocks” the the outdoor amphitheater outside Denver. 'HeyGirl' is the last track on the album and one that the band primarily does during their encores. Enjoy! One of my favorite Bands.

A little history of this song… Only a Song by Van Morrison

"Equal parts blue-eyed soul and a wild-eyed poet sorcerer, Van Morrison is among Pop Music's true innovators, a restless seeker whose unmistakable vocals and fusion of R&B, Jazz, Blues, & Celtic Folk produced is what is regarded as perhaps the most spiritually transcendent body of work in the Rock & Roll era. Having penned such iconic songs as 'Gloria', 'Brown-Eyed Girl', and 'Moondance', Van Morrison for the last 50 years been the subject of his own muse". Not always an entertainer who likes to engage with his audience he has also become famous for singing his songs and immediately walking off stage.

In 2020 Morrison responded to the COVID-19 quarantine with a series of anti-lock-down protest singles. One of those singles is our Song of the Day 'Only a Song' from the album "Latest Record Project Vol. I". Morrison, for all his foibles, can still sing a song as if his voice was transported back to 1976.

Enjoy!

A little history of this song… Always a Friend by Alejandro Escovedo

"A celebrated singer and songwriter, Alejandro Escovedo has as eclectic a background and body of work as any rock artist of his generation. As comfortable performing with a string ensemble as he is with an amped-up power trio, and as likely to bare his soul in his lyrics as he is to display some serious rock & roll swagger, Escovedo had already played an important role in Punk (The Nuns), Roots Rock, and even Alternative Country . Alejandro has been touring since the late 1970's performing all over the globe and wowing audiences with his performances and undeniable stage presence ; and yet when you ask rock aficionados if they have any Alejandro Escovedo in their collection, most will tell you that they don't know much about him or the Texas Rock Scene... and Alejandro is SO much more than that.

In 2008 Alejandro put out the album "Real Animal" that gained him the much deserved recognition that he had sought for years. Bruce Springsteen went so far as to take the "E Street Band" down to Houston just to play a few songs with Alejandro. From that show, came even more National attention when the song 'Always a Friend' became a video hit. So, today instead of the usual link at the bottom of this page to Spotify, I'm going to put up the video and you can see this Hall of Fame Songwriter perform live on stage.

Enjoy!
