A little history of this song… Tuesday Morning by The Pogues

When you think of Irish Rock, most likely you think of U2, Van Morrison, maybe even the Cranberries or the Corrs. What you don't think of are the Pogues, and had this band survived drugs and alcohol they may have topped all Irish Rockers. This Celtic Punk Band, formed in 1982, proved that the spirit of punk could live in traditional Irish folk music. The Pogues were one of the most radical bands of the mid-'80s. Even their name suggests their radical spirit ... Pogues is a Irish phrase 'póg mo thóin' that translated means 'kiss my ass" Led by Shane MacGowan, whose slurred, incomprehensible voice often disguised the sheer poetry of his songs, the Pogues were undeniably political -- not only were many of their songs explicitly in favor of working-class liberalism, but the wild, careening sound of their punk-injected folk was implicitly radical. 'Tuesday Morning' may not be their most popular song, but brings together all elements of Celtic punk and then fuses it with Irish Folk. A good representation of their music can be found on the album "30:30 The Essential Collection". One of my all-time favorites.

Enjoy!

P.S. Where else can you hear a fiddle, an accordion, a mandolin, and a banjo on a Punk-Rock record. This is just great stuff….. I absolutely love the guy in the waist-coat air snapping at the beginning!!

A little history of this song… The Walk by Mayer Hawthorne

What do get when you blend a father that plays in local Detroit bands, a musical mother, and growing up in Motown??? Mayer Hawthorne, of course.

Mayer's rare blend of Motown infused songs and a voice to match some of the greats of that era, like David Ruffin of the Temptations, has proven that a great song and voice can still wow even Milennials. "Hawthorne has released four full-length albums, one of which earned him a Grammy nomination. In addition to handling the lion’s share of production across his vast catalog, he also played damn near every instrument on every album and penned every song. His writing pulls from his life and observations; his heartache and joy. Sometimes it’s funky, other times he’s vulnerable and sincere. It’s the soundtrack to long relationships and tough breakups" 'The Walk' is one such song (From the 2011 album "How Do You Do "). If you like Motown, you'll love Mayer. Give it a spin!!

A little history of this song… Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac

One of the 10 Best Selling Albums of all time, "Rumours" is the source for today's Song of the Day 'Go Your Own Way'. Released in 1977 after the success of the 1976 self-titled "Fleetwood Mac", "Rumours" became a world wide hit almost instantaneously. I could write pages upon pages about the behind the scenes dramatics that went into making this album... but we all know the story. One writer put it like this "Despite the garbage fire of circumstance that the group were working through, "Rumours" encapsulates everything that was happening with a daring sincerity that doesn’t even seem to care that its breakup texts are being broadcast — all the wrung-out heartache, the comic silver-lining of soap opera lives, the vying musicianship, opulent excesses and all the inherent jubilation that they were, in their own berserk way, getting through it together. In short, the record is somehow a total mad expression of love — everything coalesces to make not only one of the greatest best-sellers but one of the greatest records ever, period". Not much more to be said after that. Just to mix things up a bit, this version of 'Go Your Own Way' is from the 1997 album "The Dance" and Lindsay Buckingham really shows off his talent on his Turner Model 1 Guitar

Enjoy!
